Chippewa Valley Grouse Dog Association was established in 1968. Since that time CVGDA has been partnering with Eau Claire County in NW Wisconsin. For over 50 years, the primary purpose of the club is to provide a venue for professional and amateur handlers to showcase their Grouse and Woodcock hunting dogs. The competitions are held spring and fall in prime habitat along the Eau Claire River. Grouse dogs are expected to locate and point the native grouse and woodcock. It is necessary that there is prime habitat and generous amounts of birds available to host successful trials. Eau Claire County's aggressive forest management practices are important to maintain early succession forest growth which is essential for songbirds, deer, grouse, woodcock, and many other species to flourish. Nationally there are a limited number of premier competitive field trial areas. Many recognize the Eau Claire County tract as being one of the sport’s top venues. Competitors come from across the U.S. to campaign some of the best grouse dogs in the country on one of the best collection of courses. Chippewa Valley Grouse Dog Association is a member of the Amateur Field Trial Clubs of America and affiliated with American Field / United Kennel Club.
